Are you ready for a Puppy?
Some things to consider:
How did you become acquainted with the Coton de Tulear?
Do you know someone that owns a Coton?
Did you see a Coton in a pet store?
Have you researched the Coton breed?
Have you researched or looked at other breeds?
Do all of your family members what a dog?
Is this your first dog?
How many dogs or pets have you owned in the past?
Do you currently own a dog or other pets?
How long have you owned them?
If you currently have a dog, is it neutered?
Cotons get along with most other dogs, how will your current dog handle a new puppy?
Are ready to deal with getting your current dog acclimated to a new puppy?
What characteristics are you looking for in a Coton?
Do you want a male or female?
Do you have children? What are their ages?
Are your children old enough to help withthe care of the puppy?
Who will be responsible for the care, feeding, training, etc of your Coton?
How long have you been at your current address?
Are you planning on, or is there a chance of moving?
Do you have a fenced yard? Size?
Will the dog be housed inside or outside?
If more than one adult in the house, do they all work outside of the home? How many hours a day will the dog be home alone?
How will you house/ confine the dog when you're not home?
Who will care for the dog if you are away on vacation or for long periods of time?
During the first several months of owning the puppy, it will be very similar to having a new baby in the house. Do you have the time and energy to house train the puppy, train basic commands, take out for socialization, daily excercise, and weekly grooming?
Are you ready for the expense of a Coton? The initial purchase price? High quality dog food? Routine visits to the vet? Regular grooming if you don't plan to do it yourself?
Do you plan to breed?
How many Cotons do you plan to acquire?
Do you understand that your CTCA Coton can not be bred with another breed?
Do you support the AKC and its registered breeders?
Have you read the CTCA website about the Code of Ethics required for a breeder?
Have you read through the CTCA website for more information on the breed?
We hope you understand that we only put these questions here because we want to make sure you are ready for this commitment. We also want to make sure our babies go to safe, stable and healthy homes.
